The Townshend School Board met for three days, Nov. 27-28-29, 2009, to consult upon the progress towards our goals to take the school to the next stage of growth and development.  One afternoon a meeting was held with the National Spiritual Assembly of the Czech Republic and Counselor Uta Von Both about collaboration and cooperation between TIS and the Institutions of the Baha’i Faith.

The school is accredited with the Ministry of Education of the Cech Republic and also offers the University of Cambridge International Examinations which is accepted by universities through out the world.  It has a rich academic and co-curricular program which both challenges and motivates the students to fulfill their potential.

Mehran & Joyce Akhtarkhavari

Mehran Akhtarkhavari’s experience as a teacher, principal and currently as the Head of an international school makes him uniquely qualified as an educator in the field of international education.  He has spent his primary & secondary years in an international school in India, and then completed his college and university education in North America. His 18 years as a teacher and administrator has given him the ability to relate to the issues of youth today as they strive to be citizens of the world. Mr. Akhtarkhavari’s experience in the IGCSE and IB curriculum is a great asset to the school and will help in leading the school to its next level of development.

In the interview process Mr. Akhtarkhavari said that: “I have come to the realization that a true education is not only academic excellence but must include the spiritual and moral development of the student.” The school community looks forward to August 2010 when he, and his wife Joyce, will join the Townshend community.

We are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Ray Johnson as the Interim Director for the commencing academic year 2009/10. The unanimous decision of the Board was reflective of the enthusiastic support for Dr. Johnson’s leadership skills and academic administrative experience.

Dr. Johnson brings to TIS nineteen years of academic administrative experience in the international school environment. He has served as the Headmaster of the New Era School of India, the Principal of the Maxwell International School on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada, and has taught educational administration for fifteen years at University level.
