Dress Code

The Townshend International School dress code provides students with a visible identity as students of the school, provides a reminder that they are engaged in education, and that their focus is the acquisition of knowledge, wisdom and virtues.

The dress code releases students from the distractions of being fashionable, and some from the pressure of making choices at the beginning of each day, and consequently worrying about the wisdom of their choices for the rest of the day. The school is an inappropriate forum for the display of every passing fashion.

The items that make up the Townshend International School dress code permit students the expression of a moderate degree of personal taste and individuality but are essentially work-wear and should be treated as such by students. The dress code provides enough flexibility to allow students to find clothes in which they can function comfortably and effectively in any class – from drama to mathematics.

The primary and unchangeable requirements of the dress code are cleanliness and neatness. Students should come to school in clean, ironed, and neat attire. Neatness should also be evident in the way the dress-code items are worn.
