Nuclear Physics in Action

April 22, 2015

Students from Mr. Taheri and Ms. Wolfova’s physics classes put their study of nuclear physics to a test with a visit to the Temelin Nuclear Power Station.  Their teachers had arranged a tour of the facility, lectures by the scientists, and time at the information and exhibition centers.  Do you know how to control a nuclear reactor? Do you know what yellow cake is or what can be observed in the cloud chamber?  These were among the questions that were answered for Townshend’s young physicists.  Tracing the path from the atom to the light-bulb, students saw the practical application of nuclear physics to produce energy.  Thank you to Mr. Taheri and Mrs. Wolfova to arranging this excursion.
