We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Author Dahl to Townshend. Dr. Dahl was in town to visit family (his niece and nephew are students at Townshend) and to address in International Symposium on the Ethics of Environmental Health. Dr. Dahl is widely known for his many years of work with the United Nations, and well as multiple non-profit organizations focused on the environment, ethics, and sustainability.
Dr. Dahl addressed students, first at morning Assembly, telling the story of how he created his career, and the path he took through the years. We invite guests to share their experiences in this way with students, in order to show them possibilities for themselves and for their own lives.
In the afternoon, Dr. Dahl spoke to the upper level geography classes, as well as ethics and English classes, delving into the details of “Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” which he played a role in defining. These seventeen goals have been agreed upon by the countries of the United Nations and are in the process of being implemented.
It was a pleasure having Dr. Dahl here. He broadened our vision of the possibilities, and of the practicalities of transforming our world.
