Cycling to UNESCO Site

On Sunday, Mr. Jorge Cortés, gathered interested students and headed on bicycles to Holašovice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just 20 km from campus. The village is one of 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Czech Republic. In fact, the Czech Republic has more World Heritage Sites per square meter than any other country in the world! According to the UNESCO website, Holašovice “is an exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a traditional central European village. It has a large number of outstanding 18th- and 19th-century vernacular buildings in a style known as ‘South Bohemian folk Baroque’, and preserves a ground plan dating from the Middle Ages.” The leisurely journey through the beautiful Czech countryside took six hours, with perfect weather. We are thankful to Mr. Cortés, who regularly accompanies students on these Sunday rides.
