Visit to the United Nations in Vienna

Townshend Level 1 Civics students made a trip to Vienna to participate in an interactive human rights tour at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). This trip was a hands-on approach to supplement our global governance and human rights studies, specifically focusing on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and international law.

Students not only experienced the world of the United Nations and learned about its work in Vienna and around the world, but also had the opportunity to participate in human rights activities in a UN conference room and discuss issues relating to gender and racial inequality, climate change, education, extremist ideologies and the refugee crisis. Students also had the opportunity to visit different sections, conference rooms, and offices of the UNOV. After the UN tour, students explored restaurants and shopping in the Vienna city center.
