The Water Cycle

Be able to describe and draw how the water cycle works.

The Path of a River

Be able to describe the path of a river from snowy mountaintop to the ocean using these terms: source, run off, meander, floodplain,tributary, mouth, estuary

Be able to draw a diagram of the path of a river


The Amazon River

*the largest river in the world

* located in South America


The Nile River

* the longest river in the world

*located in Africa

*flows from South to North


The Murray River

*largest river system in Australia

*the largest tributary is called the Darling River


Reservoir

a large artificial lake used to store water for drinking, irrigating crops, producing electricity or to prevent flooding


River Pollution

Be able to state causes of river pollution, e.g. sewage, chemical waste from factories, fertilisers and pesticides from farming, waste oil, rubbish

Be able to discuss ways that river pollution can be prevented


Acid Rain

Be able to explain how acid rain is formed

Building Along a River

Be able to describe why ports, cities and

factories are built along rivers

Be able to discuss the disadvantages of

building along rivers or estuaries

Permeable

lets liquid pass through, e.g. soil, soft rock
